How we clean your solar panels

No chemicals, no pressure washers, no cutting corners. Here's exactly what happens when we come out — so there are no surprises on the day.

Why it matters

Solar panels are just glass, and anything sitting on that glass is blocking sunlight from reaching the cells underneath. Dust, salt, pollen, vog residue and bird droppings all add up. Here on Oʻahu the salt-and-dust combination builds faster than most mainland homes deal with.

The frustrating part is how invisible it is. Your system doesn't alarm — it just quietly produces less, month after month.

What we use, and why

Pure (deionized) water. We run our water through a deionizing filter that strips out the minerals. That matters because ordinary tap water leaves those minerals behind as spots when it dries. Pure water dries completely clear — no streaks, no residue, no towel-drying needed.

Soft brushes on a fed pole. The brush head is soft and the water feeds through it, so we're lifting dirt off the glass rather than grinding it across. We work from the pole where we can, which keeps weight off your roof and panels.

No chemicals. No pressure washing. Detergents leave a film that attracts dirt faster, and pressure washing can force water past the panel seals — that's how you void a manufacturer warranty. We don't do either.

The visit, step by step

1. Quick assessment. We look at your roof pitch, access and how soiled the panels actually are. If your panels genuinely don't need cleaning yet, we'll tell you.

2. Safe setup. Ladders and anchors set properly. We work off the pole from the gutter line where the roof allows, so we're not walking on panels.

3. The clean. Pure water and soft brush across every panel face, working in sections so nothing dries mid-clean and gets missed.

4. Frames and edges. We clear the frame channels and gutter edges where grime collects. Buildup there traps moisture and shades the bottom cell row.

5. Final rinse. A full pure-water rinse, left to air dry — spot-free, no towels touching the glass.

6. Your proof. Before-and-after photos texted to you the same day.

How often?

For most Oʻahu homes, twice a year keeps output steady. Closer to the water, or under trees where birds perch, quarterly is usually the honest answer. We'll look at your situation and recommend a schedule — not upsell you into one.

Common questions

Will this void my warranty? No — the opposite. Most manufacturers require panels to be kept reasonably clean and specify no abrasives or harsh chemicals. Pure water and soft brushes is the method they point to.

Do I need to be home? No, as long as we have safe roof access and an outdoor water spigot. Your photos arrive by text when we're done.

What if it rains right after? Rain doesn't undo a proper clean — rain is what deposits dust in the first place when it dries. A clean panel sheds it far better than a dirty one.

Can't I just hose them off myself? You can, and it's better than nothing. But tap water leaves mineral spots as it dries, a hose won't lift bonded salt or droppings, and most roof injuries happen to homeowners doing exactly this.
